Sabin tells the lives of Native American war leaders and women of courage in roughly chronological order, from the Algonquin champion Piskaret and the Pamunkey sachem Opechancanough to King Philip, the Squaw Sachem of Pocasset and Pontiac. Written for boys in 1918, it tries to present each leader’s cause from his own people’s side, though its vocabulary and assumptions are those of its day.
A readable popular history of Native resistance across three centuries, best read with its 1918 outlook in mind. Download the free EPUB.
