Jeff Peters, a smooth-talking confidence man with a weakness for long words used wrong, recounts his schemes to a listening narrator: selling magnetic cures, running a phony matrimonial agency, founding a fake university and outwitting rival crooks. His partner Andy Tucker shares most of the spoils and some of the comeuppances.
Grifters with a code of honour, told in O. Henry’s tangled slang, make this one of his most quotable books. Download the free EPUB.
