A foreword sets out the argument: little towns are no more innocent than big cities and no duller. The stories that follow, set in the Midwest and Iowa, take in a powder-company family, an aging couple sent home, a man who might have been, marriage at its hardest, and daughters of Shiloh, mixing comedy with real heartache.
A lively, unsentimental collection from a popular writer of the 1910s, good company for readers of Sherwood Anderson and Booth Tarkington. Download the free EPUB.
