In six cantos of stanza verse, the Rhode Island jurist Job Durfee tells how Roger Williams, banished from Massachusetts for his convictions, went out into the wilderness and found shelter among the Narragansetts. The title takes the greeting the native people gave the exile. Sachems, war threats and Williams’s trust in God fill the poem, with notes on its history at the end.
