Before his Cape Cod novels, Lincoln wrote verse for Harper’s Weekly and The Youth’s Companion about the people he knew as a boy. These ballads give voice to cod-fishermen, life-savers, school-committee men and village oracles, mixed with songs of the sea and wind and comic pieces such as a vacant-lot ball game interrupted by a goat.
Homespun New England humour and sentiment, best read aloud in a Yankee accent. Download the free EPUB.
