On a hot summer at Saratoga, Basil March and his wife take up a pretty, rather friendless country girl and a pleasant young man of their acquaintance. Knowing perfectly well what they are doing, the Marches conspire to throw the two together, and then must live with the consequences of their kindness.
A short comedy of manners featuring Howells’s favourite couple, light and observant in equal parts. Download the free EPUB.
