Bill Peck, back from the Great War with one arm gone, talks his way into a job with Cappy Ricks’s lumber and shipping firm in San Francisco and refuses to be beaten by any assignment. To see whether he is fit to run the Shanghai office, the old man sets him a final errand designed to be impossible: find and buy a particular blue vase.
A short fable of persistence that businesses handed to employees for decades, and still a brisk, funny read. Download the free EPUB.
