Sarah Morgan was nineteen and living in Baton Rouge when Union forces arrived on the Mississippi in 1862. Her diary follows the shelling and occupation of the city, the family’s flight from their home, the loss of brothers to the war, and her own sharp, changing reflections on war, duty and the men on both sides.
One of the most vivid women’s diaries of the Civil War, written from a slaveholding family’s Confederate point of view. Download the free EPUB.
