Verne took up the story of Wyss’s Swiss Family Robinson and carried it on. Here the families awaiting relief on New Switzerland are betrayed when the ship Flag is seized by mutineers, and the castaways are put ashore on a barren, unknown coast. They must survive a time of hard trial before any hope of rescue appears.
