Kentucky in 1782: young Roland Forrester and his cousin Edith come west to claim land and are caught up in border warfare. Among the settlers is Nathan Slaughter, a mild Quaker mocked as Bloody Nathan for refusing to fight, while a mysterious avenger the Shawnee call the Jibbenainosay leaves his mark on slain warriors.
A landmark American frontier novel, written explicitly against Cooper’s noble savage; its hostile portrayal of Native Americans is central to it. Download the free EPUB.
