The town of Fukui is in a fever of excitement over the foreign teacher the Daimio has brought in at the pleading of the university students. The newcomer soon withdraws into his mansion behind his screens, and rumour spreads of a spell that binds him, for an outcast girl the townspeople call a fox-woman is slowly winning his trust.
