Leech went to sea as a boy in the Royal Navy and was serving aboard the frigate Macedonian when she was taken by the USS United States in 1812. He describes the floggings, food, slang and terror of the lower deck, the carnage of the battle, and his later life in America, including service in the US Navy.
One of the very few lower-deck memoirs of the sailing navy, a source historians still rely on. Download the free EPUB.
