Based on the author’s own experience at sea, this story follows the officers and men of two armoured cruisers sent to protect British interests when revolution breaks out in the South American republic of Santa Cruz. Life aboard a modern man-of-war mixes with street fighting, wounded rebels and the leader Navarro, to show how command of the sea shapes events on land.
