Gannal surveys every way people have tried to keep bodies from decay: natural mummies preserved by sand and cold, the elaborate embalming of ancient Egypt, and the anatomists’ and naturalists’ techniques for preparing specimens. He then sets out, in plain operating-room detail, his own process of arterial injection, which he presented to the French Academy of Sciences.

A curious landmark in the history of preservation and mortuary science, in Richard Harlan’s 1840 American translation. Download the free EPUB.
