Milton wrote much of his early poetry in Latin, and William Cowper translated it into English verse. Here are the elegies to his friend Charles Diodati and his tutor Thomas Young, poems on the deaths of a Cambridge beadle and a bishop, a spring ode, pieces on the Gunpowder Plot, verses to the singer Leonora in Rome and his Italian sonnets.
