Around 1900 a young Englishman led a trading safari north from Kikuyu country, across the Tana and around Mount Kenya, in search of ivory and of the little-known nomadic Rendile and Burkeneji peoples. He records the porters, desertions, hunger, elephant hunting and dealings with the communities he passed through, with a self-mocking humour.
A frank record of the East African ivory trade at its close, colonial in outlook and valuable as testimony. Download the free EPUB.
