The back yard where Cassy and Jerry Law live is a jumble of broken barrels, tomato cans and washing, but Cassy is determined to make a garden of it. Her small efforts, Jerry’s disappearance, a new acquaintance named Eleanor who visits during her Easter holiday, and a disastrous attempt at lighting a fire fill a summer of small adventures and new friendship.
