A short life of Lincoln written for children, beginning with his frontier boyhood and his years as a young backwoodsman, then his work as a lawyer, his contest with Stephen Douglas, the secession crisis and the Civil War. Hamilton explains slavery and the politics of the 1850s plainly, opening with Whitman’s elegy for Lincoln.
A clear, warm introduction to Lincoln for young readers, from a British series of children’s heroes. Download the free EPUB.
