Term at Putnam Hall is over, and Tom Rover bursts into the tent with news: instead of resting at the farm, the brothers will spend the summer on a houseboat. Campus fun, a confession from Link Smith and the ever-troublesome Frozzler family give way to a kidnapping and the search for their vanished boat.
