Six tales from the early 1890s. In the title story, guests at an Alpine inn discover that a famous writer seems to exist twice and a brilliant socialite not at all when unobserved. The others include The Wheel of Time, Lord Beaupré, The Visits, Collaboration and Owen Wingrave, the haunted story of a soldier’s son who refuses to fight.
Henry James at his most playful and uncanny, a fine way into his shorter fiction. Download the free EPUB.
