Lost in the forest, the children Twinkle and Chubbins are transformed into little larks with human faces and taken under the wing of a stern but kindly bluejay who keeps order among the birds. They attend a bird reception, hear the oriole’s and the bluejay’s own stories, meet Mrs. Hootaway the owl, visit an eagle’s nest and learn who the forest’s real destroyers are.
Written in 1907 under Baum’s pen name Laura Bancroft, a gentle fantasy with a plea for kindness to birds. Download the free EPUB.
