Judge Alexander Barton, a polished American politician, takes a cynical interest in a refined woman not yet thirty who seems to be one of society’s victims. Her story, and that of her marriage, is bound up with the American-ruled Philippines, where its people live through wasted years and try to recover them. Fee had taught in the islands herself.
An unusual novel of American colonial life in the Philippines, for readers of early twentieth-century women’s fiction. Download the free EPUB.
