Hans Breitmann, a beer-loving, brawling German-American, throws parties, goes to picnics, takes on the rowdies, joins the Turners and blunders through the Franco-Prussian War. Leland tells it all in a riotous mix of English and German that delighted readers on both sides of the Atlantic, and adds introductions and notes to this collected edition.
The most famous dialect verse of nineteenth-century America, still funny if read aloud. Download the free EPUB.
