John Henderson toured the British Caribbean with the painter A. S. Forrest, whose colour pictures fill the book. He sketches the history of the islands, then lingers in Jamaica, Kingston and its markets, the dress and manners of its people, before moving on to the other islands. He argues for British interest in colonies too often dismissed, but his racial attitudes are those of 1905.
