A memoir of the Regency practical joker and editor opens the volume, followed by the pieces that made his name: the Ramsbottom Papers, in which a social-climbing City matron and her daughter Lavinia send home gloriously misspelt letters from Paris, alongside comic tales, squibs, puns and accounts of the hoaxes Hook played on London society.
A generous sampler of the man Regency London considered its funniest talker, for lovers of Dickens’s comic forebears. Download the free EPUB.
