In 1814 the young Mary Godwin and Percy Bysshe Shelley, with Mary’s stepsister Claire Clairmont, crossed war-scarred France on foot and by mule, went on to Switzerland and returned down the Rhine through Germany and Holland. The book adds letters from the summer of 1816 describing a sail round Lake Geneva and the glaciers of Chamonix, and Percy’s poem Mont Blanc.
Mary Shelley’s first book, written in the same years and landscapes that gave birth to Frankenstein. Download the free EPUB.
