During his exile in New York in 1850 and 1851, Giuseppe Garibaldi gave his private memoirs to Theodore Dwight to translate. They tell of his youth as a sailor, his flight from Italy, his years fighting in South America and the defence of the Roman Republic in 1849; Dwight continues the story through Lombardy, Sicily and Naples.
A stirring contemporary portrait of the hero of Italian unification, much of it in his own words. Download the free EPUB.
