Published in 1929 in Weird Tales, The Dunwich Horror follows the monstrous offspring of Lavinia Whateley and a cosmic entity of unknowable origin, and the desperate effort of scholars to contain the horror before it consumes the world. Set in the isolated, degenerate village of Dunwich in the Massachusetts hill country, the story is drenched in Gothic atmosphere and New England folklore.
One of Lovecraft’s most widely anthologized stories, it remains a cornerstone of the weird fiction genre. Download the free public-domain EPUB at Better Gutenberg.
