Jean de Servigny takes his friend Léon Saval to the Paris house of the Marquise Obardi, a lady of the demi-monde, whose daughter Yvette is lively, flirtatious and apparently unaware of the world her mother lives in. Summer days at Bougival bring river picnics, boatmen’s balls and love, until Yvette discovers the truth about herself and her suitors.
One of Maupassant’s finest novellas, a sharp study of innocence and corruption. Download the free EPUB.
