Christopher Wellwyn, a kindly artist, cannot refuse anyone in need, to the despair of his daughter Ann. On a winter night his studio fills with a flower-seller, an old cabman named Timson and Ferrand, a vagabond foreigner, while a vicar, a professor and a magistrate argue over how such people should be reformed. The comedy asks what charity can and cannot do.
A gentle, ironic social comedy by the Nobel laureate of The Forsyte Saga. Download the free EPUB.
