Jonson’s 1601 comedy is set in the Rome of Augustus, where the young Ovid neglects the law for poetry and Horace is hounded by two envious hack poets. Those hacks were understood as caricatures of Jonson’s rivals Marston and Dekker, and the play ends with a court of poets putting them on trial. This edition includes an introduction and a glossary.
