Thompson’s of Mallingbridge, established 1813, is the finest shop in its market town, and the widowed Mrs. Thompson runs it with a firm hand and a shrewd head. Then, in middle age, she marries a younger man, who neglects the work yet insists on being boss, and her business, her authority and her daughter’s love are all put at stake.
A perceptive Edwardian study of a woman in business and of love arriving late. Download the free EPUB.
