On October 5, 1792, Roger Conant, a Yale graduate and Massachusetts landowner, crossed into Canada as a United Empire Loyalist. His descendant draws on a hundred years of family recollection to describe Upper Canada as it was settled — clearing land, the War of 1812, the 1837 rebellion, farming, travel and customs — through to the summering crowds of the 1890s.
Plain, first-hand social history of Ontario, valuable for anyone tracing Loyalist roots or pioneer life. Download the free EPUB.
