Sir Marcus Ordeyne, a former schoolmaster freed by an inheritance to pursue his scholarly writing, keeps a diary of his quiet London life. Then he rescues Carlotta, a beautiful, utterly unworldly girl raised in a Levantine harem, and installs her in his house, where her innocence of Western manners turns his scholarly calm and his romantic plans upside down.
A witty, warm-hearted comedy from one of the best-loved storytellers of the Edwardian age. Download the free EPUB.
