William Hayley turns true or reputed anecdotes about animals into ballads for young readers: a faithful dog who guards his master, an elephant, an eagle, a stag, a stork and a panther. Each poem tells its story in plain ballad stanzas and draws a lesson about loyalty, gratitude or courage.
Best known today because William Blake engraved its illustrations, an 1805 curiosity for lovers of Blake and Romantic verse. Download the free EPUB.
