In 1840 Edward John Eyre led an expedition north from Adelaide toward the salt lakes of the interior, then turned west along the Great Australian Bight on an overland march to King George’s Sound. His journals record the waterless country, his Aboriginal companion Wylie and the hardships of the route, and close with a long account of Aboriginal customs.
One of the great journals of Australian exploration, whose sympathetic but period view of Aboriginal people is of its time. Download the free EPUB.
