Augustine Birrell writes the life of Andrew Marvell, the Yorkshire poet of the garden lyrics, Milton’s colleague in Cromwell’s service and for many years the member of Parliament for Hull. He reads the poems and the rough political satires alike, and portrays Marvell as the honest, independent member who loved his constituents and distrusted the court.
A lively, witty biography by an essayist and politician who understood both of Marvell’s careers. Download the free EPUB.
