Written in the Transvaal in 1899 and published in London after the author escaped, this book blames the war on a plot by the Afrikaner Bond. It reviews Boer history, relations with Britain, the suzerainty question, the treatment and franchise of the Uitlanders, the Jameson Raid, Boer armaments and the Bloemfontein conference that preceded the ultimatum.
A partisan wartime document, best read as evidence of British opinion rather than as history. Download the free EPUB.
