When France lost Canada, the western tribes found British traders and garrisons in place of their old allies, and the Ottawa leader Pontiac drew them into a concerted war. Parkman surveys the tribes east of the Mississippi and the long Anglo-French rivalry, then narrates the councils, the siege of Detroit, the fall of the western posts and the war on the Pennsylvania frontier.
Parkman’s first great history, vividly written though its view of Native peoples is very much of 1851. Download the free EPUB.
