Marie Grubbe, a passionate girl of the Danish nobility, grows up hungry for a life larger than her manor allows and marries into the royal circle of Copenhagen. The novel follows her through marriages, scandal and changing fortunes, tracing a real seventeenth-century woman’s search for love and meaning with psychological precision.
The novel that made Jacobsen a founder of Scandinavian naturalism, admired by Rilke and Thomas Mann. Download the free EPUB.
