Der Dunkelgraf (The Dark Count) is a German-language novel by Ludwig Bechstein, best known today as a compiler of German fairy tales whose collections rivaled those of the Brothers Grimm in nineteenth-century popularity. Beyond his folkloric work, Bechstein was also a prolific author of historical and Romantic fiction set against a backdrop of German legends, Gothic atmosphere, and regional history.
