A short introduction for newcomers rather than connoisseurs, written when Japanese art was still little understood in Britain. Dick surveys painting and colour printing, sculpture and carving, including netsuke and the later ivory okimono, metal work, ceramics and lacquer, with notes on the masters and periods worth knowing.
A clear, affectionate primer on Japanese decorative arts from the height of Western enthusiasm for them. Download the free EPUB.
