Seven late stories, from “Unser Karl,” in which an American consul in a stage-set German town meets an unexpected countryman, to the gold-country partners of “Uncle Jim and Uncle Billy” and the headstrong heroine of “Salomy Jane’s Kiss.” Along the way come a Chinese laundryman, a mountain hermit and the last exploits of the dashing Enriquez.
Harte at his mature best, mixing frontier humour with pathos for lovers of the Western short story. Download the free EPUB.
