In neutral Switzerland during the First World War, a hotel fills with intriguers: German agents, Bolsheviks, and exiled Balkan royalty barely disguised under their first names. The young narrator, a lover with a mission, finds a laughing girl at the centre of the plotting, and Chambers plays the whole affair as a comic thriller.
A breezy spy romance from 1918 whose jeering wartime view of the Germans is very much of its year. Download the free EPUB.
