Joe Louden was the scapegrace of Canaan, Indiana, a boy the respectable families despised and drove out. He comes back years later as a lawyer of the poor and the disreputable, and sets out to win the town’s respect, while his loyal friend Ariel Tabor returns from Europe an heiress and the town’s gossips watch them both.
