Monks’ marginal quatrains about a blackbird or a cat, Amorgen’s song, Fand’s lament as she leaves Cuchulain, the Saltair na Rann, and the love song “Eileen Aroon” sit together in this anthology of Irish poems composed between the eighth century and the modern era. The translations come from many hands, Standish Hayes O’Grady among them, with an introduction by Eleanor Hull on how the verses survived.
A generous gathering of Gaelic poetry for readers who know the old Irish tales and want to hear their songs. Download the free EPUB.
