Belloc sets out not to retell the Revolution but to explain it to English readers. He begins with its political creed and Rousseau, sketches leading characters such as Mirabeau, Danton and Robespierre, outlines its phases and military story, and ends with its conflict with the Catholic Church.
A provocative, readable essay by a Catholic historian who admired the Revolution’s ideals. Download the free EPUB.
