In this lecture, a physicist shows that the splash of a drop, over in the twinkling of an eye, is an exquisitely regulated event. Using spark photographs taken in a darkened room, he follows drops of milk, water and mercury, and solid marbles, as they strike liquid, form crowns and jets, and reveal the workings of surface tension.
A small classic of scientific photography and explanation, still a delight to read. Download the free EPUB.
