After Jack’s attempt at a house has gone wrong, Jill takes over, and with her wise father and a cheerful son-in-law she argues her way through every decision of building a home. Under the story lies a full course in domestic architecture: choosing a site, under-draining, bricks and terra cotta, roofs, stairs, kitchens and pantries, heating, plumbing, chimneys and the hazards of fashion.
A witty Victorian guide to house design that still has sound sense for anyone planning a home. Download the free EPUB.
