Edward Everett Hale gathers accounts of great inventors, wherever possible in their own words or those of their friends, for boys and girls using the new public libraries. Archimedes, Roger Bacon, Benvenuto Cellini, Bernard Palissy and his enamels, Benjamin Franklin and James Watt’s steam engine are among the figures whose discoveries are explained.
